Polishin' My Boots

I'm glad my dad taught me how to polish shoes because after a year of constant use (not to mention, kickin' it around the Egyptian pyramids, Greek and Turkish ruins and trekkin' through Israeli and Palestinian cities last October), they were in desperate need of some TLC.  I first learned how to polish shoes after buying many vintage heels on eBay that needed some conditioning.  This helps restore life to leather goods.

Basically, you need to brush off any dirt, apply polish with small circular motions in a thin layer or two, let the polish sit for a few minutes, then buff off the polish with a smooth cloth.  I used Kiwi brand polish in a neutral (clear) color.  Here's a more detailed step-by-step guide and if you take care of your leather goods, they'll last much longer!

Aren't these the best boots ever? What I love the most about it is the longer you wear it the more it fades to look vintage and old looking. I love it even more after you've polished it as well. Thanks for the step-by-step guide. I actually own these boots in 3 colors - camel, grey and black and camel is def. the best looking one. Have a great day!

The Kiwi brand is the best! Mary Ann you just took me way back. My grandfather taught me the same technique. I haven't polished shoes in awhile, but he believed in that. Thanks for sharing.

Good job on those boots! I usually avoid it but once or twice a year, I schlep my boots in front of the TV and polish away.

Hi Mary Ann,

I am finally here for some promised Bunny Bombs. Bandit is the most adorable little thing. His ears are short too. He is a true Hotot. All White with only Black around his eyes. But my Nefi does have the coolest little zigzag down the center of her back. I can use my finger to make the stripe zig and zag in any direction.

I browsed your older posts and must say that the Bunny bombs are the cutest thing I have ever seen. But you my dear, DO NOT need the comedy help, because you already posses the most awesome style. Hope you don't mind, but I am in Blog Love with you and Bandit.

Funny that I have a Tab on this exact same subject. Footwear Love. You must have done a fantastic polishing job, because Bandit gave his seal of approval.

See you again soon! Laura and Nefi
